Hahko Meets HalfQueen

When the world famous Boiler Room decided it wanted to film a show in New Zealand, there was only one club night that fit the bill. The rest is history

The Auckland based party, prioritising the QTBIPOC experience, burst onto the world stage, images of Lady Shaka, HALFQUEEN, Jess B & BBYFACEKILLA flooded the internet, all to the backdrop of a writhing mass of constant motion and expression. It was a statement of community and it was loud.

From Left to Right: HALFQUEEN, Hahko

At the centre of it, as she is of so many many things, was HALFQUEEN. I was incredibly excited to host Shaq, to hear what it was like to be in the middle of this moment for her, and to hear her thoughts on community and hopefully shine some light on how to build such a beautiful thriving scene.

We cover a lot of ground, give way too many shout-outs to PollyHill (go stream Sweepstake), talk Jess B fandom and history, the aspirations of being a plant mama and discuss the inescapable intersections of identity and media while having a good dose of giggles along the way.

Thanks to Poynton Studios for hosting, Benji for producing and HALFQUEEN for her time

You can now find ‘Hahko Meets Humans’ on all major streaming platforms, including but not limited to Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts.

New episode every Sunday.
