Hahko Meets Tom Verberne
Tom Verberne makes the kind of pop music that even the most pretentiously alternative music listeners (like myself) can enjoy.
He is a part of what I consider an exciting scene of young, independent pop-producers coming through NZ right now including artists like Levyne & Maxwell Young, who are challenging what Dartz called the ‘Auckland development deal pop scene’ for quality, consistency & success. His most recent release, the ‘Like Life’ EP is a testament to that, pulling equally and effortlessly from The 1975, to Oasis, to Jon Hopkins.
We talk a lot in this conversation about his perspective and experience as a young musician operating in 2021, growing up with access to music tech, the difference between making beats and making songs, as well as the difference between producing music and playing it live.
