Lester teams up with Aunty Rae and nahsafe for homesick single ‘Sometimes’
I’M A RESIDENT AT POYNTON STUDIOS AND HAVE BEEN RELEASING MUSIC INDEPENDENTLY FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS. UP UNTIL THE END OF 2019 I WAS A PART OF NEO-SOUL/HIP-HOP/JAZZ COLLECTIVE ‘ROUND BUDDAH‘.
Since then I have been working with Producer ‘nahsafe‘ with the aim of releasing an EP by the end of 2020. During the Covid-19 spanner in the works of life, I found writing and listening to music to be my own sense of home.
I wrote the bulk of the verses for ‘Sometimes’ prior to lockdown. However, I found being forced to stay at home brought into question what exactly constitutes a ‘Home’, and that was the driver behind me finishing the track.
‘Sometimes‘ explores the human need for a sense of home and the various ways in which that sense is defined.
Each of us have a slightly different perception of what “home” means, and that essentially comes down to our personal experiences.
Growing up involves creating our own experiences, meeting new people, trying new things. These events among many others have helped me to discover my own sense of home. A sense of self, that’s what home means to me.
Although a house may be called a home, we can generate the same level of warmth and comfort we get from being at our family home, regardless of geographical location. This realisation was what sparked the idea for the track.
I decided to ask some friends what “home” means to them and unsurprisingly, managed to find a myriad of answers;
“What home means to me is the people I surround myself with that make me feel loved and I love them, respected, honest with one another, and no matter where you are in life through the ups and downs they will always be there to give you a sense of belonging. This makes me feel safe and secure and like I dont need a physical house to feel at home. ” – Lily
“Home to me is whenever I’m with my boyfriend or my family, or wherever I can make a really perfect cup of tea. All those things make me feel safe. ” – Sarah
“Home is being around the people I’ve never not known. The people who’ve been there since day one ” – Leon
“Where they see who I am, not what I am. ” – Maia
“We are projections of our homes ” – Pavel
“Home is cozy, home is safe, where loved ones reside, home is where my bong is ” – Kyle & Kasey
“On stage ” – Michael
“The feeling of contentment with Friends and Family” – Christa
“Family, Friends, comfort and endless jobs to do” – Ben
“Familiar roads, faces, & shops ” – Hugo
